Day-by-Day Itinerary

   Welcome to Casablanca

   Your driver-guide meets you on arrival for the transfer into Morocco's largest city. The Hassan II Mosque, perched on a rocky outcrop above the Atlantic with a 210m minaret, anchors a half-day tour that also takes in the Old Medina's narrow lanes, Casablanca Cathedral's Art Deco shell, and a sunset stroll along the Boulevard de la Corniche.

   Explore Rabat and Chefchaouen

   Rabat, Morocco's political capital, is about 90km north of Casablanca (~1 hour). Visit the Chellah Necropolis's Roman and Merinid ruins, the Kasbah des Oudaias overlooking the river mouth, and the unfinished Hassan Tower, then continue roughly 235km (~4 hours) to Chefchaouen, the blue-washed "Blue City" in the Rif foothills, timed to reach the abandoned Spanish Mosque for sunset over the medina.

   Roman Ruins of Volubilis and Imperial Cities

   The route south (about 120km, ~2.5 hours) passes Volubilis, Morocco's best-preserved Roman site, with mosaic floors still visible among the standing columns. A short drive on to Meknes takes in the monumental Bab al-Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, before the final leg into Fes.

   Explore Fes Imperial City and Medieval Medina

   A full day inside Fes el Bali, entered through the ornate Bab Boujeloud gate. Highlights include the Chouara Tannery, where leather has been dyed in stone vats since medieval times, and the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, founded in 859 CE and recognized by UNESCO as the world's oldest continuously operating degree-granting institution.

   Into the Desert—Ifrane, Ziz Valley, and Sahara

   The drive to Merzouga (around 470km, ~7-8 hours, the longest day of the trip) climbs through the Middle Atlas and the alpine-style town of Ifrane before descending through the Ziz Valley's fortified ksars and palm groves. Late-afternoon arrival at Erg Chebbi for a camel trek into the dunes at sunset and a night in a desert camp.

   Exciting Desert Adventures Around Merzouga

   A full day based in Merzouga: a 4x4 excursion across the dunes and rocky plains to visit nomadic families, a stop in Khamlia village to hear Gnawa musicians descended from Sub-Saharan settlers, and the option of sandboarding down the dune faces or an ATV tour before a second night in the desert.

   Desert Towns, Oases, Todra Gorge, and Dades Valley

   Sunrise over the dunes, then the drive toward Dades Valley (about 300km, ~5 hours) via Khamlia village, the Rissani market town, and Tinerhir's palm oasis. A short walk into Todra Gorge, where cliffs rise up to 300m above the river, breaks up the journey before the overnight stop.

   Dades Valley, Ouarzazate, Aït Benhaddou, and Marrakech

   The route to Marrakech (around 320km, ~6 hours with stops) runs through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate, where the Atlas Film Studios have doubled for ancient Rome and Tibet in major productions, then to Aït Ben Haddou's UNESCO-listed earthen kasbah before the climb over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass into Marrakech.

   Exploring the Red City

   A guided day in Marrakech's medina: the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque, the Ben Youssef Madrasa's carved stucco, the cactus-lined Majorelle Gardens, the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, and the ruined El Badi Palace, ending at Jemaa el-Fna as it fills with performers and food stalls at dusk.

    Return to Casablanca

    A final transfer to Casablanca (about 240km, ~2.5-3 hours) in time for your onward flight.
