Day-by-Day Itinerary

  1. 1

    Welcome to Casablanca

Arrival and transfer into the city, with a half-day tour covering the Hassan II Mosque's Atlantic-facing minaret, the lanes of the historic Old Medina, the newer Hobous district with its blend of Moroccan and Art Deco architecture, and an evening walk along Boulevard de la Corniche.

  2. 2

    Explore Rabat and Chefchaouen

Rabat is roughly 90km from Casablanca (~1 hour): visit the Chellah Necropolis, the Kasbah des Oudaias and its Andalusian Gardens, and the Hassan Tower, then continue about 235km (~4 hours) north to Chefchaouen, Morocco's blue-washed "Blue City" tucked into the Rif Mountains.

  3. 3

Visit Roman Ruins of Volubilis and Imperial Cities of Meknes and Fes

A roughly 120km (~2.5-hour) drive south brings you to Volubilis, a UNESCO-protected Roman city with well-preserved mosaics, then on to Meknes to walk its Imperial City walls and medina before the short final leg into Fes.

  4. 4

Full Day To Explore the Imperial City and Medieval Medina

A guided walk through Fes el Bali, entering via the tiled Bab Boujeloude gate into souks selling everything from spices to hand-hammered metalwork, with stops at the centuries-old Chouara Tannery and the Al-Qarawiyyin Library and Mosque, founded in 859 CE.

  5. 5

Into the Desert: Ifrane, Ziz Valley and the Sahara Desert

The longest driving day (around 470km, ~7-8 hours) climbs through the Middle Atlas, with a stop in Midelt — nicknamed the "Apple City" for its orchards — before descending through the Ziz Valley's palm groves to Merzouga, where a camel ride carries you to a Bedouin-style camp for sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes.

  6. 6

    Exciting Desert Adventures Around Merzouga

A full day in the desert: a 4x4 tour of Erg Chebbi's dune fields and nomad encampments, a stop at the Gnawa House in Khemliya village for traditional music, and the option of sandboarding or an ATV tour before a second night under canvas.

  7. 7

Desert Towns, Lush Oases, Todra Gorge and Dades Valley

The drive toward Dades Valley (about 300km, ~5 hours) passes Khemliya village, the Rissani market, and Tinerhir's palm oasis, with a walk down to the riverbed inside Todra Gorge, where sheer rock walls rise up to 300m overhead.

  8. 8

Dades Valley, Ouarzazate, Aït Benhaddou and Marrakech

A full driving day (around 320km, ~6 hours with stops) through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ouarzazate's film studios, the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, and over the Tizi n'Tichka Pass with views toward Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak, with a stop at an argan oil cooperative before Marrakech.

  9. 9

    Exploring the Red City

A guided tour of Marrakech's medina: the Koutoubia Mosque, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Majorelle Gardens, the Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, the ruined El Badi Palace, and the old Jewish Mellah quarter, finishing at Jemaa el-Fna as the square comes alive at dusk.

  10. 10
